TRACK CAR BUILD – PART 2

You will remember back in our second issue that Jason Camilleri started to take us through his build of a circuit car using his N14 Nissan Pulsar as base for his build.  As the car did not come with a SR20DE engine, the task of getting power was not as simple as fitting the turbo variant, so Jason is building his 1.6 litre GA16DE by way of a custom turbo set up and stripping the car of all unnecessary weight.

During the past few months, Jason has been busy sorting out teething issues with the custom turbo setup and breaking his back to remove all of the sound deadening which covers the vast majority of the floor pan. A set of SR20DET injectors were purchased second hand and then cleaned and flow tested prior to being installed and a ICE 12 inch thermo fan slotted in next to the radiator. A Cusco oil catch can was then installed to compensate for when Jason plans on racing the car and creating a lot of burnt oil vapours

Jason then sourced new interior plastics to replace his existing ones that are located on the B-pillar. He sanded them smooth and resprayed them just to bring up the look of the cabin.

The turbo exhaust manifold that Jason had already source for the engine turned out to be a waste of money and was abruptly thrown out. A new one was sourced and placed onto the engine with Jason giving some words of advice to people trying to build a car on a budget

“Do not try to do stuff on the cheap. It won’t work”

A Greddy E-manage computer is the computer of choice for mildly tuned GA15DE turbo engines as the computer allows for decent tuning capabilities along with the standard engine management system.

A Turbosmart furl pressure gauge was installed to monitor exactly what the fuel system is doing under loads. The plan for the next issue is to have the car running with the intercooler installed, but for the meantime, Jason would like to thank the following people for their help and guidance through the past few months.
