Fast & Furious 4 Screening Print E-mail

In the modifiers world, not much exposure is welcomed by the main stream public. We get bad publicity for either street racing or “hooning”, but sometimes people welcome a gathering of cars. This was the case on Saturday 18th April, 2009, when approximately 550 cars gathered at the Blacktown Drive-In cinemas in Sydney’s west for a screening of the much anticipated new edition in the Fast and Furious saga.

We will not bore you with details of the movie as such, as every reader of this magazine has no doubt seen the film numerous times. But what is interesting, is the conglomeration of various types of cars and people that attended. It was not only a line up of imports and street cruisers, but many custom cars could be seen. Old school hot rods, Chevrolet Impalas, and restored classics were scattered around the area. In a surprise move, not many “extreme” show cars were present but this could have been due to the likelihood of rain.

The cars started lining up at approximately 7pm for the 8:30pm screening with many of the patrons behaving themselves. Only a select few drew the attention of the Police to themselves. The good news was that the crowd mingled and spoke well of each other and each others cars. It is times like this when the media should be covering the scene instead of preying on only the negative aspects.

With no official event being organized for the meet, the word was spread amongst many of Sydney’s automotive forums. This is testament to how fast word can spread and how much impact a few websites can have on a venue. The attendance at the drive-ins surpassed the number seen at the showing of the third Fast & Furious film. I am assuming that should they release another installment, the Blacktown Cinemas may have to expand the area of their car park.
