Melbourne International Motorshow Print E-mail

The Melbourne International Motorshow saw many car companies showcase the latest showroom floor stoppers, allowing visitors to get up close with favorite rides.
It was clear that Lexus, Mitsubishi and Subaru were the crowd favorites with their interesting hands-on displays. Crowds were loving being able to race their friends in a Lancer with many opting to enjoy a free coffee from the owners club while looking out on the view over the Motorshow while they waited.

Nissan also had tucked away a videogame, but people were more interested in looking at the new GTR and 370Z. But other than that, the show displayed many of the same cars which many people had seen on the street before. The hype of all forms of electro and “green” cars proved to disappoint somewhat.

With many car companies making cut-backs, and a few car companies not showing, it made the Motorshow more of a balding salesman with a comb-over trying to sell cars, rather than the slick, suave, futuristic salesman that we had all come to expect from the Melbourne Motorshow.

This does not mean that future shows would suffer as many high-end luxury companies such as Bentley and Lamborghini still made an appearance and showcased some of their most desired rides.

It was nice to see the addition of the modification scene being incorporated into the show as well, with Autosalon Magazine presenting their brand new Toyota Rav4 and their Toyota Yaris with its camouflaged exterior. Spectators even had the chance to purchase aftermarket accessories from some retailers.

In summary, we hope to see the following of the International Motorshow’s here in Australia become bigger and better with time. Perhaps with the inclusion of some of Australia’s best modified new cars, a new found appreciation of this cult scene will become more accepted by the general public.
