Pictures and words by Mitch Balabka The morning started with qualifying and ran through to early afternoon. With some of the big names struggling to put power to the ground, the crowd knew they were in for a hell of an event when things started to get serious. As usual, PAC Performance had a number of customer cars out only to be over shadowed by their new 20BT Mazda 6 Pro Turbo car. In the early rounds of qualifying, Rob Stanbury in his ex ‘PACMAN’ Mazda RX3 had a few troubles on the line which eventuated into a fire under the bonnet. Unlucky for the Stanbury crew, their day was over before it even began. With the likes of Rehayem, Signorelli, Skaramuca, Glassett, Borg & Magliveras just to name a few all ready to lay down some serious numbers early in the day, it was Glassett who took first blow when he recorded the first 6 second pass of the day with a 6.98 @ 203 MPH with a very impressive 1.16 60 foot time. Glassett and the boys from M&M Racing went on to better their times with a personal best for the day of 6.886 @ 204MPH. To top the event off for the M&M crew, Glassett pedaled the Solara to win the Pro Turbo class over Nick Tsoltoudis in his 20BT Queen St RX3. As the day progressed, times were only getting quicker and MPH starting to rise. Saying this, the afternoon/night only got better. Damien Mckern took out the ST289 class in his 20B powered RX2 prepped by PAC Performance. It was an all PAC show in the final of Pro Compact with Anthony Daquino lining up against Rodney Rehayem. Daquino took the win in his new look 13BT Mazda RX3. c All in all, the event was a success and a very promising sign for Ray Box and the crew behind the Sport Compact event. Look out Jamboree! |
