CUSTOM TOUCHES – PART 1Custom Cars Online has asked owner and car modifier Shayne Walmsley to share with the readers what he does to his 1990 Nissan Vector to make it different and stand out against the rest while using parts off other vehicles and retro fits them to his car.Shayne tells us of his plans and the struggles that he goes to, to get his car build started. These types of modifications are well suited to the “average” young provisional license holder who still likes to be separated form the pack. Using the factory components from various models, crossover makes & custom touches done by Shayne, we hope that this article help you learn what it takes to help transform your car. Shayne has owned this car for the last 4 years and is the 16LF model which came with the Asthmatic 1.6lt single point injected 4cyl engine. About 2 years ago the modification bug bit hard & Shane started collecting parts to bring it up too his preferences. Thanks to the great members of the Pulsar Group of Australia forum, Shayne got to know all the different models accessories etc that his & several other pulsar models came with that were interchangeable with his own. 1st port of call was ebay where Shayne wanted to chase out what was available. His 1st bid on a set Nissan Langley (an all wheel drive variant of the N13 released only in Asia powered by the same E15T found in the ET Pulsar/EXA turbo) found them reach an astronomical $600 just for the tail lights which, as can be expected, is a little out of the “average” P Plater’s budget. Ultimately, Shayne discovered a set at just the right price over at our neighbors in New Zealand. This is the set as it arrived to Shayne. As you can see, to fit the taillights you need cutouts in the beaver panel under the actual lights. This will be covered in further detail in the next few issues. Shayne also searched out on ebay for a Rare HSV SV1800 Astra kit (Holden & Nissan had a body sharing program going for the N13 bodies up until 1989. One of HSV’s 1st models at the time was an Astra.) As you can see from the pictures, Shayne have a little work too be done to get the bodykit ready for fitment. We look forward to seeing Shayne’s progress in the future months as he shows the readers through the preparation, painting & fitting of the bodykit and a smoothed out center console, glove box lid & maybe the fitment of some other exterior accessories. |
