Showcar Sunday Print E-mail

Held on the 16th of November, 2008 in Sydney’s south-west, this show proved that it could gain the attention and recognition to go up against some of the larger shows that Sydney is acquainted to. Organised by Hot4s own Joe Franco, spectators were assured that the show would be a success. The show was held at Fairfield Showgrounds, where one of Sydney’s premier shows Small Car Sunday originated. The venue was perfect for holding the show with many family attractions such as jumping castles and rides available to entertain the small children.

All types of cars were invited to attend with awards for best Old School, Best High Tech, Best Muscle and Best Overall being awarded to the select few that earned the titles.

As you entered the show, guests were immediately entertained with international and local artists playing live on centre stage and the best dance crews battled it out to be judged by Channel 10’s very own So You Think You Can Dance choreographer Nacho Pop. Similarly, Old School lowriders entertained the crowds with hopping, 3-wheeling and dancing via their hydraulic suspension.

Many of Sydney’s best known cars from other shows also attended the event with Queen Street Smash and 2Sus Customs both bringing some of their best vehicles.

It was nice to see some new comers to the scene unveil their rides at this show too. In particular was a Jet Black Toyota Celica GT-4 and “REXIE” Subaru WRX. The GT-4 showcased custom headlights, tail lights, dash and other bodywork modifications.

The WRX, although largely with standard bodywork, showed how attention to detail to the interior and stereo can attract the much needed attention from spectators. With tiny jewels tastefully spread throughout the interior and boot install, the final product proved quite tasteful.

To help in keeping the motoring industry alive in Australia, all money raised went towards the Peter Brock Foundation, with some of Brock’s legendary Holden’s on display at the show.
